Folks Arts means that folks, regular people, are involved in the creation and sharing of something that aligns with a communities values. Folk Arts can be tangible, like crafts and dance, as well as folk arts can be intangible like music and storytelling. These things and activities are made for and by the people, "the folks". Cultural and generational heritage are a large component of the folk arts. Just as influenction are self-taught folks who find expression in many mediums. We care about the folk arts because they connect us to our own humanness and the humanness of others in our communities. While the word community is vastly expanded on in today's societies, when we think of the folk arts communities, these are groups of people who get together to participate in activities together - whether that's to share their, music, craft, story, or dance. These may have been created in isolation or handed down, but what makes them folk is they are shared in communities that value and regularly connect with each other.
